Ramsay

Cabernet Sauvignon 2004

Napa Valley

Grape Source   This wine is a unique blend of grapes from diverse, yet quite complimentary areas in the Napa and Alexander Valleys .  Each vineyard has contributed its nuances to the overall blend.  The Napa grapes came from our own estate vineyard in St. Helena, in addition to vineyards in Calistoga and east of Napa City .  The Alexander Valley component was from Anna Darden’s wonderful vineyard.

Brix at Harvest    24.7 degrees

Maceration      Different grapes needed different maceration times that ranged from 10 to 25 days on the skins. Once the wine was dry, I tasted them each day to see if they were ready to press.

Varietal Blend  Cabernet Sauvignon with a small percentage of Merlot

Sensory Notes:

All in all, I think that this is by far the nicest Ramsay Cabernet that we have made to date. The nose is rich with bright fruit/floral notes. Roses and black cherry dominate, but there are nice vanilla and oak undertones. The mouth is complex with great fruit-mostly cherries and berries. Also the wine has a nice earthiness with cedar and tobacco notes. Tannins are medium to substantial in weight and in very nice balance.
