Merlot 2005

Napa Valley

Grape Source   This wine is from several different vineyard blocks in the Oakville area. The character of grapes grown in this area changes dramatically, depending on how far the vineyard is from the Napa River. Grapes near the river tend to be fruitier and less tannic, while those towards the western hills have more structure. This wine also has a small percentage of Petit Verdot in its blend. These grapes add a nice nuanced side of black plumy fruit.

Nose  Blending the fruit from several different Napa Valley areas gives this wine a wide array of aromas. First and foremost it has a bright black cherry note along with substantial cassis characteristics. In addition there is a ripe plum side from the Petite Verdot.

Mouth   Lots of dark fruit and a wonderful countercurrent full of the bright nuances of plum, herb, sage, dill, and cassis. Well-balanced in the mouth with pleasant tannins and good acidity.
